Smart Traveling and the Luggage Scale
Posted on June 22nd, 2009 by admin, under General Travel.
An airline cost that a traveler could have avoided incurring is the excess baggage cost. Most of the time, a traveler is permitted a specific weight of baggage that he can bring along his flight for free. Any weight in excess of what is allowable is an extra cost that the traveler must pay. To avoid this kind of penalty, it is a smart practice for the traveler to measure the weight of his belongings before his flight. Using a luggage scale, the traveler can easily measure the weight of his luggage before he even enters the airport.
A luggage scale is a handy measuring device that determines the weight of a luggage by attaching the luggage to it. It is an important device that frequent travelers must have to enable them to prevent overweight costs during air travels. Currently, there are two kinds of luggage scales, the mechanical and the digital luggage scale.
The mechanical luggage scale is an older version of the luggage scale where its appearance resembles that of a mechanical clock with grids marked around the sides of its face and each number represents a specific weight. Working with its system of springs and screws, and similar to a clock, it has a hand that rotates and stops to a certain value that specifically pertains to the weight of the luggage.
Meanwhile, a digital luggage scale is the latest version of the luggage scale. Unlike its predecessor, it has display, similar to a calculator, which is more like a small screen where digits flash when weighing. The value that freezes in the screen is the weight of the luggage.

My $10,000 National Vacation Day
Posted on June 22nd, 2009 by admin, under General Travel.
“There are only pros and no cons. Save Our Summer Vacation!” This is all that I can think of in declaring August 7 as a “National Vacation Day”. Celebrating this day, even at the simplest means of being at home with my family, is a perfect venue to do some catching up and bonding with them. I will be able to share my stories and listen to theirs, laugh so hard on the silliest joke until I cry and feel that once again, we are one. Apart from my personal pros, I think the economy will also benefit from it. Come August 7 holiday, the tourism in the country will surely soar up high.
There are a lot of things people can do on this one day of liberty. They can spend their worry-free day relaxing by the beach or gazing the beautiful sight on top of a mountain. They can spend their day-off at the beauty parlor or at the spa. The adventurous can go on trekking while the artistic can visit art galleries or ancient architectures. The contemporary can just simply dine out, catch a film and go shopping.
We can make this movement succeed. Just visit HomeAway Vacation Rentals at HomeAway.com and participate with this cause. As an added bonus, tell your 10,000 vacation dream because they are giving away $10,000 to the most deserving person.
But if it was I who had the ten grand (and the extended vacation), I would bring my family to the unspoiled island of Maldives. It will be truly memorable for me if I get to enjoy the spectacular beach and peaceful lagoons of this island country with the people dearest to me. We will go island hopping to see its unexplored nooks. We will dive under the sea to have a peek of its underwater community. We will also rent jet skis and race in the ocean. “Ah! I hope wishes do come true.”
